Meet the Robinsons is a 2007 animated film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The story centers around a young orphan named Lewis who is taken in by a boy from the future named Wilbur Robinson. The film explores themes of family, acceptance, and the importance of being true to oneself. Adoption is also a central theme in the film, as Lewis is searching for his birth mother and Wilbur’s family is not traditional in the sense of a nuclear family. The film uses the science fiction elements to convey a message of the love and support that a family can provide, whether it is through blood or chosen. Overall, Meet the Robinsons is a heartwarming and entertaining film that highlights the beauty of adoption and the power of family.

When it first came out I remember watching it and getting all teary eyed at the point in the story where Lewis realizes his future and his family. Now as I watch it with our children, three who we adopted I get even more teary eyed and touched as I see how our family is sort of like the Robinsons. I’m so glad that God directed our steps toward and into foster care and eventually adoption. Foster care and adoption has really made me a better disciple of Jesus, husband, and ultimately a better father.
