Many myths and inaccuracies surround foster care. I’ll make a few posts about the most frequent that I have run across as a foster parent.
Myth: Foster parents are only in it for the money. Reality: Foster parents receive financial support to help cover the cost of caring for a child, but most foster parents do it because they want to help children in need. In all actuality, it comes out to less than $.50 per hour. The motivations for each parent vary but it is not for wealth or monetary gain that someone jumps into foster care. At the core is an altruistic motivation to serve children, families, and the surrounding community by opening their homes as a safe haven in the midst of turmoil and uncertainty.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. James 1:27 ESV
